Spin-orbit scattering of Pb and Bi impurities in Cs, K, and Na films

چکیده
The spin-orbit scattering ~SOS! of the Pb and Bi impurities in Cs, K, and Na films is measured by means of weak localization. The dimensionless SOS cross section for Pb in Cs ~in units of 4p/kF 2 ! has the large value of sso *' 2 3 . This SOS cross section is the absolute maximum possible for ~s,p! impurities ~if one neglects d and larger l scattering!. The SOS contributes almost 50% to the total elastic scattering. @S0163-1829~99!01147-9#

The superconducting proximity effect as a tool to investigate metal films and interfaces
The superconducting proximity effect is measured in sandwiches of thin Pb films and the alkali metals Cs, Rb, K and Na. The Tc-dependence provides information about the interface barriers between Pb and the alkalis. Such a barrier is particularly large in Pb/Cs sandwiches. It is not due to impurities or oxydation. In the presence of a sufficiently strong barrier a special form of the Cooper lim...
متن کاملSuper strong effect of surface impurities on the resistance and Hall effect of quench condensed Cs films
Thin films of Cs, quench condensed onto a He cold quartz plate, possess electronic mean free paths which considerably exceed the film thicknesses. When theses films are covered in situ with sub monolayers of Au, Ag, In, Rh and Pb in the range between 0.01 and 1 monolayers the film resistance and the Hall constant increase dramatically. This corresponds to a scattering cross section of the surfa...
متن کاملConduction electron spin-flip scattering by impurities in copper
We have measured the concentration dependence of the transmission conduction electron spin resonance linewidth of copper doped with Li, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Ni, and Ti. In each case, we find a linear concentration dependence which allows us to determine a spin-flip cross-section, 03C3sf, for each impurity. These crosssections, together with those deduced from linewidth data previously published for ...

Submitted for the MAR13 Meeting of The American Physical Society Spin-orbit scattering in quantum diffusion of massive Dirac fermions WENYU SHAN, Wean Hall 6424, Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh — We theoretically study the effects of spin-orbit scattering on weak (anti-)localization in two-dimensional massive Dirac systems. We clarify that weak anti-localization and loca...

Work function and surface energy per unit area were calculated in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) with Linearized A ug mented Plane Wave Plus Local Orbital method in full potential for a clean symmetric slab of silicon containing two (top and bottom) surfaces. The surfaces were theoretically modeled using supercell technique by stacking a variety of silicon layers along (111)...
